Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood

I liked this story.  I think that the author was trying to evoke multiple emotions from the different middles but the author wanted to show that regardless of what happen in the middle of a story, the end result is always the same.  The people die.  

My Ending:

John and Mary have been boyfriend and girlfriend for 8 years.  Mary has always wanted to spend the rest of her life married with John but John doesn't want to go through everything in order to get married.  Day after day Mary waits and thinks if this will be the day that he proposes but it never happens.  One day John starts to see another woman and breaks up with Mary.  Mary is terribly depressed and can't live without John so she decides to hang herself.  Meanwhile John and the new girl aren't working out well and break up.  With no where to go John runs back to Mary's place ready to finally propose and when he opens the door with the spare key he always kept he finds her dead body.  John doesn't know what to do and can't live with the guilt of Mary's death on his hands so he decides to hang himself so he can finally be with Mary, dead.  John and Mary both end up dead.
